Shotlane

Privacy

Shotlane is a Chrome extension that uploads screenshots you explicitly capture and returns a link you can share. This page describes exactly what it stores, and why.

What we store

What we never collect

Shotlane does not read page content, browsing history, form data, cookies, or keystrokes. It has no permission to run on websites except at the moment you click “Select region”, and even then it only draws a selection overlay. Nothing leaves your browser until you click “Copy link”; “Download PNG” never uploads anything.

Who can see a screenshot

Share links contain a 12-character random identifier and are unlisted: they are not indexed by search engines and cannot be guessed or enumerated. Anyone you give the link to can view the screenshot without an account — that is the purpose of the link. Treat a share link as you would the screenshot itself.

How long we keep it

Until you delete it. Deleting a screenshot from the extension permanently removes the image file and its record, and the link returns “not found” immediately. A copy can remain in our content delivery network's cache for up to an hour, and in the browsers of people who already opened the link. There is no recycle bin. To delete your whole account, email constantin@dossier.co.

Storage and transport

Screenshots are stored on DigitalOcean Spaces in New York, and their metadata in DigitalOcean Managed PostgreSQL. All traffic is HTTPS.

Third parties

Google, for sign-in only. DigitalOcean, as our hosting and storage provider. No analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no sale or sharing of your data.

Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

The use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use your data only to provide Shotlane's single purpose — capturing, annotating and sharing screenshots — and never sell it, transfer it for unrelated purposes, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
